Kegals - What They Are and Why They Are Important
Kegals are a way of strengthening the pelvic (pubococcygeus) muscles. The pelvic muscles tend to stretch out. If you are someone like me, and have never really worried about this muscle until I personally and physically was made aware of the importance of keeping this muscle in shape. Well hopefully we can both learn something.
For women who have children, pelvic muscles have a tendenty to stretch out. OK, so what. was my opinion. Isn't that just something like stretch marks or sagging boobs? Unfortunately no, keeping this muscle in shape is very important. Urinary incontinence, pelvic prolapse, and difficulty achieving an orgasm or a frustrating sex life are all some of the negative results of a week pelvic muscle.

I remember my doctor explaining to me how to do Kegel muscle exercises. He said that the muscles that you use to stop the flow of urine midstream, are your pelvic muscles that you need to exercise. Practice holding the muscle for 3 seconds and then releasing it for 3 seconds. The doctor suggested that I do these exercise every time I went to the bathroom, stopped at a stoplight or during commercial break. You should build up to contracting for 10 seconds and releasing for 10 seconds.A more pleasurable way, in my opinion, is using a weighted exerciser. The Ben Wa balls!
With these little balls you can not only strengthn your pelvic muscle but you can also enjoy constant, deiscreet stimulation.. Ben Wa have been around through history, used for a variety of reasons.
Ben Wa balls are weighted balls that are inserted into your vagina. The kegal muscles are constantly squeezing when the balls are inside your body.
In Japan, elite courtesans were thought to wear the balls constantly as a way to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, giving the courtesan's 'pleasure quarters' a very literal meaning. Today, this type of sexual tool is still used in a variety of ways, but most often, the balls are used as Kegel weights for vaginal strengthening and to increase sexual awareness. The weighted balls help exercise the muscles in the pelvic floor responsible for sexual pleasure, while keeping the vaginal walls elastic and responsive to stimulation and pleasure.
Yes, there are other forms of weights that people to use in strengthening the pubic muscles. I, personally love the dual positives of the Ben Wa Balls.

I bought the glass egg weights a couple of years ago. Put it in, had it fall right back out on the floor! Janey has the best story ( if you haven't read it ) about her ben wa ball falling down her pantyhose and under her foot! LOL. I tried to convince Barney that Kegals were acceptable for my exercise regime. He didn't agree. CLEARLY he has no clue!
ReplyDeleteI like my glass balls but doing the squeeze exercise it more difficult. I wonder if Ty would consider it exercising. My daughter laughed when I explained the whole thing to her and then she tried to squeeze too, the look on her face was priceless.
DeleteWhen I had my kids no one did pelvic floor exercises - they hadn't arrived yet. Wish they had, because I am now in real trouble due to a pelvic prolapse. It is frustrating and embarrassing, and when I think how I rode horses all my life till ten years ago, and have been going to Pilates seemingly forever, I am totally fed up with the situation. We are told over here not to stop peeing midstream as it confuses the muscles, but to do the exercises during the day when walking, sitting doing housework etc. Sadly they are like 'closing the stable door when the horse has bolted' as far as I am concerned. I am unable to keep those wretched balls inside at all - they just fall out. So I am embarking on a series of operations starting this summer to adjust all my bits and tighten the pelvic floor once again.
ReplyDeleteNext time, I will come back as a man. I've already decided!

Wow! Your story has really convinced me of the seriousness of doing my kegals. Thank you. I don't think that I would ever want to be a man though..... Women can do anything a man can do and more (they still can't have babies but we can pee standing up). I am going to be praying for you. Please keep me informed on your health.
DeleteVery informative post. I liked it. :) Lol, good job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kenzie. It's nice to see your back around here

Thanks Roz. Posting everyday is really hard, I don't know how people do it. I have to sometimes do a couple at a time when I have time and then post when that letter comes up.
DeleteI think you write the best post of us all, Blondie. I really like reading each one of them.
ReplyDeleteHan, are we going to become best friends? You keep saying nice things and I might just put you right up there as number 1. Just tell me that I look like I am thirty and you will be number one.
DeleteMy friends told me that inserting a wee little vibrator in with the Ben wahs make it extra special nice. But can't speak from experience. J
ReplyDeleteI have been checking out the vibrating balls. Maybe that will be my next purchase. I just hope that I won't be squirming too much that I can't get any work done....
