On the ttwd side, not much is new. Probably because the rest of my life is so crazy busy.
My oldest son graduated from high school last week. No, I am not old enough to have a child that old. Well okay, I am. It is just so hard to believe that this wonderful young man is my cute little baby. It seems to have flown by. Every time I think about kindergarten, I start to get teary. He is going to college in the fall but is staying at home while attending. We have a university, a state college and three community colleges within 30 minutes from our house. Plus many other places you can get your degree. And within 20-45 miles from our house, there are probably at least three private colleges that I can think of. With money as tight as it is, he might as well stay home and not have that expense added on.
My father was hospitalized last week with conjunctive heart failure. Not a good diagnosis at all. At almost eighty-one, he is pretty much okay with this. Me, I am a wreck. I can't imagine life without my dad and mom. And I am a definite daddy's girl. He has been released from the hospital and is starting to feel better. He is on oxygen 24/7 and is taking multiple types of pills. This will not go away, it can only be controlled.
Summer officially begins here on Thursday, when everyone is out of school. It was already 100 degrees, so the heat has arrives. I am not a big heat person, I love my air conditioning. So the schools pack everything they can into the last week of school; field trips, parties, assemblies and end of school dances. And of course there are HS graduation announcements, year books, teacher gifts, last minute projects, and all that other stuff. At least, finally, baseball season ended for us this weekend.
So all this chaos stresses me out. I look around at my house and I am seeing clutter already. My husband keeps giving me breaks on my household chores because I am gone all day running around with the kids. I was in bed at 9:00 last night, exhausted. I laid down next to my youngest, who is sick with a fever and a barky cough, an fell asleep. Nothing got cleaned up last night. So I wake up stressed and with too many things on my plate.
A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I discussed all the end of school activities. He decided that he would be helping me out as much as possible which even included some stress relieving, attitude adjusting, role reminding spankings. And truthfully, knowing that he is there for me and has my back (and bottom) has made all of this stress manageable.
I'll say it again, life is so different then from last year. We would have been arguing and at each other's throats. Instead, he listens to me, he backs me up with the kids and he doesn't question my decisions. I treat him with respect, explain what is going on and I ask for help. Communication, loving it. I love our roles, our new commitment to each other and how I don't ever feel alone. People make think that it is strange but a sore bottom can help keep me focused and centered. And right now I need that.
and a nap.......

Glad to hear everything seems almost under control Sending wishes to your dad. Mine is 81 too. He's got a myriad of medical conditions so I get where you're coming from. He seems more OK with his stuff than I am.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I totally get how a sore bottom can make you feel centred. The word we use is grounding spanks. cos they keep me grounded :)
Thanks for sharing about your dad. You do know how I feel. Grounding is a good word but I don't want it to be confused with being grounded. That happens a lot in dd relationships. I would love to be grounded, take away my mom's taxi license = lol. Grounding of that kind doesn't go on here just the grounded spanking.
DeleteI'm feeling a little guilty - the nest is empty, but the kids call often (they actually communicate much better after they move out). I went through the looking after my parents. It's hard, you just want them to be big and strong and all knowing like when you were little.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that your marriage is good.
Hugs,
PK
PK, don't feel guilty. When my kids go back to school in September I will be dancing and great teachers, like you, now have my babies for the school day.
DeleteI don't want my dad to be sick, he was such a super hero in my little girl eyes. He could fix anything.
I am happy with my marriage. Such a difference this lifestyle makes. I am sure that there are many people who would not understand it but I am a spanko and it is awesome for me.
Sorry about your dad. Glad the rest seems to be on track.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sunnygirl! It reminds me of some words in a song from a tv series way back when, "You take the good, you take the bad, and there you have, the facts of life".
DeleteDid I ever tell you how much I love your blog name. It always makes me smile when I see it.
Your life has certainly been busy! Congratulations to your son on his graduation. First year going to a college near by sounds like good thing to me. I am so sorry to hear of your father's condition, but glad he was released from the hospital. (I don't want to imagine life without my parents either.) Your last part of the post was great to read. I hope you continue to get the spankings you want/need and that you get some rest when you can. Maybe you and your daughter could go get pedicures:) Hugs to you,
ReplyDeleteOh, I like the pedicure idea. Hmmmm. After Thursday, we will have to do something like this. I shouldn't whine too much about being busy, it's just that I am tired and I hate when my little ones are sick. Sometimes I wish that I lived closer to my parents. There is some conflict there so I don't go home a whole lot but since time is limited, I am going to have to suck it up and go see my dad.
Deleteoh Blondie, I can so relate to this. It's crazy at my house too and just like you say about your man, H is there to back me up- which helps so much but the extra stress relief and role defining spankings just help things work so much better.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your dad. This must be such a difficult thing for you- hugs and prayers are being sent your way. -E
Elysia, where have you been? I haven't heard from you in forever. Missed you.
DeleteI am sure you know what I am going through with the craziness but the steady hand of our husbands.
Thanks for the hugs and prayers
lol, H just happen to read over my shoulder while I read your reply and he told me to tell you (in reply to your Q that is)that I've been over his knee. lol
DeleteHonestly, just too busy to blog- thus I can relate!
BTW,I'm working on my reply to your comment on my last post, but it's complicated. It may turn into a post if I ever get a chance to write. Just snippets of time today. But thank you for it! :-)
Congratulations to your son on graduating. I hope he enjoys his further studies! And I am so sorry to hear about your father, I'm a daddy's girl as well, and my heart sank when I read that. I wish I had more to say, but you're both in my thoughts. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteAnd you deserve that nap!
Thanks Riley. When I got the phone call, my heart sunk too. Could you call my husband and let him know that I deserve a nap. Thanks
DeleteBlondie you do need a nap! Busy on top of busy.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your son's graduation. It is an emotional time. So sorry your dad is sick but hopefully he will continue to improve.
I love reading about how your marriage has changed since last year because it so mirrors our experience. Everything about us has changed. Pretty cool huh?
Zoe, that is so cool that you and I are in such similar places with our marriages. We will have to have a chat one of these days.
DeleteThanks for your kind words
Sorry about your dad. Glad he's starting to feel better. Congrats for your son graduating. I may be attending my girls graduations in my Zimmer frame lol! So no, you're not old enough :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't think the spanking thing strange at all. Fellow spanko here of course :)
Dee x
Thanks Dee, I am glad he is feeling better too.
DeleteI had to look up what a zimmer frame was, LOL. I would call it a walker.
And don't worry too much about that. I am older than you and I still have four more kids to get through school. My youngest is ten. Still feel to young to have such old kids.
I really appreciate getting to know other spankos. I feel so much better knowing that I am normal and honest about myself and what I like. Wish I had sought out this information sooner.
Sorry about your dad. My son graduated too, but he'll be moving many hours away this fall. It's nice you're handling a stressful season better this year.
ReplyDeleteMick, It makes his hs graduation easier for me since he isn't moving away yet. Though I really think that it would have been good for him. That's what I did and living in the dorms in a new city at a big school was awesome. But he chose not to. So I really feel for you and I am sending all kinds of warm hugs and thoughts your way.
DeleteStressful season is being handled well, my husband is enjoying helping me out anytime he can.
I am sorry about your dad Blondie. I hope that you have some opportunity to make some special memories with him and your kids over the summer.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are handling all the stress very well--the good stress and the bad stress. There's nothing like a hubby to lean in on when it gets to be a bit too much.
Thhanks Susie. I will make a lot of time this summer to go and visit him. My parents have never really been into the grandparenting thing, so I probably won't be bringing all the kids home too much. He is a great dad (and my mom is great too)but for whatever reason, grandparenting is not something that they really did. Oh well, there loss.
DeleteI cannot even begin to explain how nice it is to have my husband on my side during the good and the bad. It has been years since we have even been civil let alone supportive. He is the man I originally fell in love with times 99.
sorry to hear about your dad. Congratulations on your son's graduation. Our son was away for over 3 years at uni but returned to the nest as he said it's cheaper for him to live with mom and dad than rent a place of his own at the moment:)
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear your marriage is good.
Love,
Ronnie
xx
Ronnie, thanks to people like you who are so open and honest about the lifestyle, my marriage continues to get better all the time. We are human so of course it is not perfect. But I am not going to complain.
DeleteMy husband is changing the locks once the kids move out..... no returning home he says. But I will probably sneak them in through a window. LOL
Blondie, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad...I know just how that feels. Congrats on the graduation. It sounds like life is crazy...but mostly good crazy! I'm glad to hear it. Sara
ReplyDeleteSara, you do not even know how great it is to see your comment. I have missed you and have been praying for a speedy recovery. Thank you for your kind words.
DeleteYes, you most certainly do need a nap! I needed one myself yesterday and actually managed to sneak one in. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. But congratulations on your son's graduation!
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace. I am glad you got the much wanted and needed nap. My dad is getting better every day
