A Dungeon Near Me

I read a lot and most of all my reading is erotic, bdsm, spanking kind of story. My biggest question is, are the dungeons in the books or the ones where I live more common. Maybe it's being in California, where things are so casual. But the dungeons that I have been to or have heard about aren't like the fancy, high protocol dungeons in the books. The membership fees are minimal not thousands, and the vetting process is less rigid (not sure if this is good or bad). And the people who attend the dungeons that I attend are normal looking, not all looking like models, and everyone talks to everyone else. As a matter of fact, sometimes it would be hard to tell that you are at a dungeon by looking at the people because the social rooms look like normal dance floors or lounge rooms. What makes it different is the playrooms where the beatings and what not take place.
Eavesdropping on conversations is a kick. You hear things having to do with finding a babysitter, losing a key to a handcuff, children graduating from college, marriage, what color is hotter (wax), negotiation of a scene, where someone bought an implement, car breaking down, and "Blondie, what are you doing?". There are so many "normal" people. One could always find a table to sit at and join in on. 99% of the time there is no alcohol (we all shared a champagne toast on New Year's Eve). And food is usually potluck. Water bottles provided by the host.
The playrooms are more what one would imagine. There are strict rules to follow. You never interrupt a scene, you are quiet and respectful, you take turns using the equipment, etc. And if you are the one playing, most people use the red, yellow and green for safewords. And there is always a dungeon monitor close by. All of this is pretty much common sense. There are different areas for different kinks. Maybe a spanking bench or a St. Andrew's cross. Or a table to lay on for electrical play, or gosh the possibilities are endless.
I am not sure what kind of dungeons there are where you live. But where I am, it's not intimidating or something to fear. Just normal people playing.
Check out this youtube video of a club here in California and see how simple it is.

And if you are looking for a new book to read (both of these are part of a series), I highly recommend both of these books pictured above.

  2. I shall have a look at that youtube video. i don't know of any dungeons in my little tiny city. and we're super conservative here (asia and all) so it will be interesting to see some real footage. Sounds like the dungeons you go to are a lovely place to let loose and really be yourself.

Very interesting and informative post, thank you for sharing your experiences and for the photos and link. We went to a BDSM event once here and found it similar to as you described.

  4. THanks Blondie. I don't think I've ever written about a dungeon and not sure if I ever will considering my lack of writing lately, but I'll bear in mind that this is the real life version and not hollywood style.

  5. Interesting, Blondie. One blogger got me started reading Cherise Sinclair, and I love her books. Don't think I am ready for a visit though.

  7. Interesting experiences you have, Blondie. I have only read a little about such places and not in a long time. I get scared just reading them. LOL! Hugs! Windy

  9. Blondie,
I haven't seen you around blog land in while. I just want you to know that your presence is missed. Also, I would email you and tell you this, but you said a long time ago that you don't do well with emails. So, I am leaving you a message here and hopefully you will see it. I hope you're just happily busy over there and that otherwise everything is fine. Either way, I'm interested in knowing how you're doing. Good or bad doesn't matter. We will support you either way. Keep writing! Hugs, Windy

  10. I have always wondered what they would truly be like. I'm too shy I think to ever go to one, but it would be interesting if I ever got up the nerve. :) Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, that is pretty cool. :)
